The Coyotes

One day Colby came home with a magnifying glass.  Without saying a word, he got a snack and was out the door.  He heard that coyotes had robbed the bank.  He followed tracks to the woods.

“I saw something move!” said Colby.  “It’s a trap.”

The next thing Colby knew, he caught them.  He brought them to jail.

Clang.

How Electricity Travels Through Wires

greyson-electricitygreyson-electricity2

Atoms jump from atom to atom through the wire.  When it gets to the end, it starts again.  Negatively charged particles of an atom are the primary carriers of electricity.  Atoms are made of three tiny particles called protons, neutrons, and electrons.  If there is a break in the circuit, you can get shocked.

Sewing in Math–Parabolic Curves

I liked this math project because you can make things that are pretty amazing just using string, nails, and a board.  The different colored string made mine have different colors on it.

Hey, Diddle Diddle (playing with the thesaurus)

Hey, Diddle Diddle, the kitty and the violin,

The bull leaped over the bouncy ball in space.

The tiny dog giggled to see such game,

And the bowl chased away with the spoon.

What is Red?

Red is the sparks of a fire when it’s cold.

Red is a fire engine down the street.

Red is a baked cherry pie when we come in.

Red is the taste of apple cider.

Red is Grandma’s Christmas cookies.

Red is apple.

A Letter

Dear Grammy,

I loved Young Reader’s Day!  I dressed as a Little from the Littles books.  Dad made a tail and stuffed it with cotton for me.  Then we got in the car and drove to school.  Miss Hellickson was dressed as a spy!  In one room I made a slider, and we got to do lots of things.

From,

Saber Tooth

A Peek into my Reading Journal

I have been enjoying books of unusual facts.  I discovered that it is a myth that opossums hang by their tails. How it started is that opossums use their tails to grasp branches as they climb trees.  Why it’s not true is that a baby opossum can hand from its tail for a second or two, but an adult is too heavy.

If I Were in Charge of the World

If I Were in Charge of the World

(a form poem with thanks to Judith Viorst)

If I were in charge of the world,

I’d cancel homework, math, and also homework again.

If I were in charge of the world,

There would be more ice cream stores,

More money,

And lots of flying bathtubs.

If I were in charge of the world,

You wouldn’t have spinach and broccoli,

You wouldn’t have toothbrushes,

And you wouldn’t have pets that poop in your house.

If I were in charge of the world,

Desserts would be a balanced meal.

All people would be awesome.

And a person who sometimes picks his nose and eats it

Would still be allowed to be in charge of the world.
